Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport

Your journey begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, where you’ll be greeted by the majesty of Africa’s tallest peak. Take a moment to acclimate to the Tanzanian climate and prepare for your upcoming adventure.

Day 2: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave

Your trek commences at the Umbwe Gate. As you venture into the forest, the pristine wilderness surrounds you. The trail ascends steadily, and your destination is Umbwe Cave, a campsite that offers a tranquil setting amidst the trees. This first day sets the stage for the challenges and rewards that await.

Day 3: Umbwe Cave to Barranco Camp

The journey from Umbwe Cave continues, taking you to Barranco Camp. The terrain becomes steeper and more rugged, and you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Arriving at Barranco Camp, you’ll be greeted by the iconic Barranco Wall, which you’ll conquer the following day.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today’s adventure includes the exhilarating climb up the Barranco Wall. The ascent is both challenging and exhilarating, offering magnificent vistas of the mountain. After conquering the wall, you’ll descend into the Karanga Valley, where Karanga Camp awaits. This lush and green oasis amidst the harsh alpine environment provides a serene setting for the night.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Hut

The trail now leads you from Karanga Camp to Barafu Hut, your high camp for the summit attempt. As you ascend, the landscape becomes more barren and challenging. Barafu Hut is your last stop before the ultimate challenge of summiting Uhuru Peak. Take this evening to rest and mentally prepare for the summit push.

Day 6: Barafu Hut to Uhuru Peak, Then Mweka Hut

Summit day has arrived. In the pre-dawn darkness, you’ll begin your climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The effort and determination required are immense, but the reward of witnessing the sunrise from the summit is unparalleled. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend to Mweka Hut, cherishing the memories of your triumph.

Day 7: Mweka Hut to Mweka Gate

The final leg of your journey leads you from Mweka Hut to Mweka Gate. Descending through the lush rainforest, you’ll appreciate the rich biodiversity of this unique ecosystem. Take this time to reflect on the incredible journey you’ve undertaken and the personal growth you’ve experienced. Your Kilimanjaro adventure concludes at Mweka Gate before you return to your destination.

More than 30,000 hikers visit the famous mountain, known as the roof of Africa, each year, drawn not just by its height but also by the panorama it offers. While scaling Mount Kilimanjaro is not for the faint of heart, many trekking aficionados have it on their bucket list to reach the mountain’s snow-capped summit.

The dry season, which lasts from June to October and December to March, offers beautiful scenery, a clear view, and a high success rate for summit attempts.

In our opinion. The Machame Route comes in second, followed by the Lemosho Route, while the Rongai Route comes in third.

The gateway to both Kilimanjaro and the safari is Kilimanjaro International Airport. From there, you’ll be driven an hour to Moshi town or an hour to Arusha City for the night. Drive to the gates of the Kilimanjaro mountain park the following day.

You need all of the equipment from the Kilimanjaro Climb Gear List as well as layered clothing because the summit is extremely cold.
